Tanner Life and Estate Planning

Protect What Matters Most

Estate planning isn't about how much money you have. It's about making sure the people you love are taken care of — without confusion, conflict, or a courtroom — when something happens to you.

I'm Kate Tanner, and I help families across Puget Sound build estate plans that actually work when they're needed.

About Tanner Life and Estate Planning

A Plan That Sits in a Drawer Doesn't Protect Anyone

Maybe you already have a will. Maybe a friend helped you fill out an online template a few years ago. Here's what most people don't realize: a plan only works if it's built correctly, your assets are titled the right way, and it's kept up to date as your life changes. I've seen families discover — usually at the worst possible time — that a plan they thought was solid didn't hold up. That's not a reason to panic. It's a reason to get a second set of eyes on what you have, or build something solid from the start.

Heart-Centered, Clear, and Built Around You

No two families are the same, so no two plans should be either. When we work together, I'll take the time to understand your family, your goals, and what "peace of mind" actually looks like for you — then build a plan that fits your life and your budget. You won't get a generic template or a lecture in legal jargon. You'll get a clear explanation of your options, a recommendation I believe in, and a plan you actually understand.

Kate Tanner

Principal Attorney
Before starting this firm, I served as a Navy Judge Advocate for over ten years, helping military leaders navigate the legal fallout of service members' worst days through processes like courts-martials and administrative separations. The Navy sharpened my dedication, my attention to detail, and my ability to solve hard problems under pressure. But what I left with was something more personal: a passion for helping families — especially queer families — make critical legal and financial decisions that protect what matters most. I started this firm because I wanted to be the kind of counselor people could trust for a lifetime, not just for one document. No matter where you're starting from, I want to help you make informed decisions from a place of confidence, not fear. When I'm not with clients, you'll usually find me digging in the dirt with the Master Gardeners of Kitsap County, skating with my teammates at Rat City Roller Derby, or knitting under a blanket on my couch. I live in Poulsbo, Washington, with my husband, Patrick, and our three rescue cats: Willow, Ruth Bader Ginspurr, and Nannerpuss. I'd love to meet you and help you protect what — and who — matters most.
